Waterfowl

The study of waterfowl is my passion and chosen profession.

After graduating from LSU in December 2015, I was hired as a Research Associate in the Waterfowl Ecology Lab under Dr. Kevin Ringelman. My responsibilities include managing the lab, assisting with his undergraduate classes, and helping his graduate students with their respective projects.

One of Dr. Ringelman's grad students, Cassandra Skaggs, is working on a project studying the effects of oil and gas development on nesting waterfowl in the bakken region of North Dakota. She has hired me as one of the technicians to accompany her in data collection and processing from mid-April to mid-August of this year.

In the future, I hope to attend graduate school myself. My current goals include earning a Masters, a Ph.D., and one day working in academia to help influence the next generation of waterfowl enthusiasts.

In my time at LSU, I was fortunate enough to spend 100+ volunteer hours working with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries on waterfowl capture and banding. I also assisted with some Blue-winged Teal backpack transmitters for a USGS project and a few Snow Goose neck collar transmitters for a graduate project. I even got to band an American Coot which is techically not an Anseriform but was quite neat nonetheless. I have not banded any non-North American waterfowl but the final picture is of me holding a newly hatched Freckled Duck at the Pinola Aviary in Shreveport, and I had to include it because how amazing is that!
